Every single registered domain has no less than 2 Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your Internet domain to the servers of a certain hosting company. This way, you have both your site and your emails managed by the same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are lots of other records, for instance A and MX. The first one reveals which server deals with the website for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server deals with the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, when you enter a domain address in your browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of another service provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain address. Having different records for the website and the e-mails means that you may have your website and your e-mails with two different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a website hosting account from our company and you want to direct either your site or your emails to a different company, it is going to take you literally just two clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard two, it will not take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of each record that you change or set up isn't going to take more than several hours and if necessary, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which indicates how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

With the semi-dedicated services that we provide, you'll have complete control over the records of all domains and subdomains you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each of them has using the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting CP and editing any record requires as little as a few mouse clicks. If you want to change your web or e-mail hosting provider, you can change the necessary record and point your domain name to the other service provider for one of the services, as you still keep using the other one through us. You could also keep the main domain here, while you change the A record of only one of its subdomains. In case you are changing the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the default two we have, you can create them with ease and set a different priority for every single one.
